Oxford picture palace

Music and Movie at the Oxford Picture Palace next Friday (9th Sept)! Starting at 9PM there’ll be an unplugged performance but yours truly followed by a movie I’ve chosen. I’ve spent months trying to acquire the rights to run ‘Wake In Fright’ but have had no luck with the Australian distributors. Instead we’ve found a print of one of my favourite Australian films from childhood: ‘The Man From Snowy River.’ If you’re into good old fashioned romance AND horses this could be a nice night out for you.

Coventry show

Last minute show added in Coventry, UK on the 7th August at Taylor John’s House. We’ll be playing with our friends This Frontier Needs Horses.

Weddings, parties, anything

I’m supporting these legends of folk rock on Friday 30th September at the Palace Hotel in Melbourne. It’s Grand Final Eve and if St Kilda have anything to do with it again it could prove to be an even more edgy and exciting show than they normally give. The band doesn’t really exist anymore but get back together from time to time for such special events.
Also, I’ll be joined onstage by my old touring buddy Bree Van Reyk on the drumkit. Good times.

European tour

Shelley Short, Steph Hughes and I will be playing a few scattered shows in Europe over the next couple of weeks leading up to End of the Road festival. We have a few days off here and there for sightseeing and swimming but if anyone has any ideas that might fit in we’re up for the challenge.
Please email my manager if you do….. matt@lookwhostouring.com
Some of these shows will be supported by Shelley Short, with Steph and I as her backing band.

we had a show booked but the promoter pulled (out as some promoters do) but we’re coming anyway and are trying to lock down another one. Even if we can’t get one we’ll just play in a park under a tree somewhere and post details on my website so you can come and listen.

I’ll hopefully be presenting my favourite Australian Film
WAKE IN FRIGHT with a short acoustic performance
before the screening. I say hopefully as at the time of sending this mailout we’re still trying to clear the rights with the elusive Australian distributors. Please check back to my website in a week or so for details and ticket links. It’s also a very small space so get in early if you want to come. It’s also my Mums birthday and she’ll be there, and yes, I’m aware it’s not the best birthday film.

Egersund Folk Festival

Very happy to be invited back to Egersund festival in Norway for the second time. It’s held in a little fishing village on the west coast over 3 days and I’m playing on Friday 1st July. Am excited to see Herman Dune play again, plus Robin Hitchcock and Johnny (just got their new album) and of course see my Norwegian friends play too. The biggest coincidence is that half way through Joe Boyd’s biography ‘White Bicycles’ I find out he’s giving a lecture there!

FESTIVAL INFO

Simpletons tribute night

For those of you in Melbourne I’ll be hosting a tribute to the Simpletons, the band i once played in, at the Arthouse Hotel this Monday 14th March. It was that very venue that gave us our first shows in Melbourne and we played there most visits up until the time of the band’s breakup 5 years later.
Sadly our lead singer/songwriter Shane Gelagin passed away in 2003. I’ll be joined by other former band mates Brad Cheers, Ryan James and Stephen Meldrum to play songs from the Simpletons and pay homage to Shane. We’ll also be performing with guest singers Mick Thomas, Anthony Atkinson, Tali White and others.
